What Is TMJ BOTOX?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the place where your jaw connects to your skull to allow you to open your jaw smoothly. If you are experiencing pain or hearing sounds whenever you open your jaw, schedule an appointment with Dr. Shahzad Anwar to determine if you have TMD. At his Roseville, Walnut Creek, and Yuba City, CA offices, Dr. Anwar uses a therapy involving BOTOX to examine and care for your TMD to ease pain. Contact Modern Aesthetics to learn more about BOTOX for TMJ and to get relief today.

How Does TMJ BOTOX Work?

Dr. Anwar and his team will listen carefully to understand your concerns prior to performing a physical exam. During the examination, he will assess how your jaw moves and start looking for indications of teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and misalignment. He will also feel the jawbone and lower face for any swelling and tenderness. Based on the exam, Dr. Anwar will discuss ideal locations for BOTOX injections to prevent pain, discomfort, and dislocation of the jaw. The surface of the skin will be numbed, and BOTOX injections will be applied all in the span of a few minutes.

He is the kindest, most knowledgeable Dr. I have ever been to! He is helpful in so many ways!

I had an amazing experience at Modern Aesthetics. Dr. Anwar is incredibly knowledgeable and really takes the time to listen and tailor everything to your needs. I came in with concerns about texture and visible pores, and he recommended a personalized skincare regimen plus microneedling. The combination has truly transformed my skin. My skin is a lot brighter and smoother now, and my pores look so much smaller. Dr. Anwar made the whole process easy and comfortable, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. I’m so grateful for the results and highly recommend Modern Aesthetics!

Very impressed! The interior was well designed clean. The staff was very friendly especially 2 lovely ladies working that day Autumn and Elana! I came in to get some Botox done and the doctor was very helpful! He advised me how many units was necessary based on my medical situation rather than trying to sell me something I didn’t need. He pointed out the flaws in my face without making me feel insecure.

About Us
Is TMJ BOTOX painful?

The injections are done with a very fine needle and are generally well tolerated. You might feel a quick pinch or slight pressure, but most patients report minimal discomfort during treatment.

Can BOTOX change the shape of my face?

In some cases, regular TMJ BOTOX treatments can subtly slim the jawline. This happens when enlarged jaw muscles shrink slightly due to reduced activity, giving the lower face a softer contour.

How often should I get TMJ BOTOX injections?

Most patients schedule maintenance treatments every 3–4 months to keep their symptoms under control. Over time, some people may need fewer sessions as the jaw muscles stay more relaxed.
